Elevating Studio training modules
Elevating Studio conducted a tailor-made elevator and escalator training for the facilities team and building management office at Marina One Building in Singapore. Marina One is a mixed development with high-end offices, residences, and a retail podium. In total, 70 elevators and 28 escalators serve the building users with great user experience and spectacular views.
The objective of the training was to educate the various team members of the Facilities Team on the operation and performance of elevators and escalators, and to understand the role and responsibility for the facility management department related to elevators and escalators.
During 2 Saturdays the trainees were introduced to the different types of VT technologies, their applications, and the most important performance indicators such as waiting times and ride comfort.
Singapore’s Building Maintenance and Strata Management Acts and Regulations related to elevator and escalator maintenance were addressed and explained in great detail, the most important elevator and escalator standards and regulations from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), including expected 20 maintenance outcomes.
The trainers explained typical product quality, installation quality and maintenance quality aspects of Lifts and Escalators. In addition, important topics such as equipment safety, certification, testing requirements and methods to analyse maintenance call back data. The trainers also explained with several examples how end-user behaviour can impact equipment performance, supported with multi-media material and several recommendations how breakdowns can be mitigated or reduced.
The training also addressed the typical quality, safety and maintenance issues and risks in Marina One Building, supported by analysis of accurate data and records from the maintenance provider. Several testing procedures of a selection of safety components were explained, along with pass or fail criteria for both elevators and escalators.
On the more practical side, the training also included a visual inspection to show and explain the various functions of the main parts and components of the elevators and escalators, with the guidance and support of the maintenance technician of the elevator contractor. The trainers showed the main electrical and mechanical components, potential risk and safety hazards and good house-keeping practices. The practical part of the training was completed with demonstration of some safety tests.
The elevator and escalator training was completed with an exam. The trainers from Elevating Studio were proud to conclude that all trainees passed the exam and very positive feedback was received on the training module and scope!
The training has proven that a better and deeper understanding on lift and escalator operation will help the facility management team with better communication and support of the elevator maintenance provider and communication with the end-users. Which will help reduce safety risks and improve reliability, too.
